LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville rowing team will be in action this weekend when the Cardinals travel to Cocoa Beach, Fla., for a scrimmage with Tennessee.
Â
"These scrimmages are very useful for our program," said head coach Derek Copeland. "It allows us to get to the business of building fast lineups, begin to compete, and establish a rhythm of how we want our trips to play out this semester. This is a new location for us and we are excited to dig in and train alongside of the Vols."
Â
The Cardinals continue their preseason preparation with a return to the Sunshine State following their winter training stint in Sarasota in early January.
Â
"We are traveling with a little more than half the team and expect to spend a fair amount of time in fours," said Copeland. "This will allow us to continue to develop the technique needed to transfer our indoor training to the boats. It also allows us to begin our spring 2024 selection. By the end of this trip, we expect to have a had some fun being and training together, some idea of which combination are working well, more data collected. We'd also like to practice some of the portions of the races that are very specific to on the water training: starts and sprints, for example."
Â
Following this weekend, Louisville will embark on its spring training trip from March 9-15 in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and then host the 2024 Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational.
