February 01, 2024 | Women's Golf
The two-day tournament will be held at Guadalajara Country Club
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's golf team is set to begin the spring season with their first tournament this upcoming week. The Cardinals are traveling south of the border as they head to Guadalajara, Mexico to compete in the Collegiate Invitational starting on Friday, February 2. The tournament is hosted by Virginia and will be held at the par-72, 6,333-yard Guadalajara Country Club AC. The first round and first nine holes of the second round will be held on Friday and then conclude with the final nine holes of the second round and all of the third round on Saturday.
The Cardinals are one of 12 teams competing in the tournament this week and are one of four ACC's hitting the course with NC State, Florida State and the hosts, Virginia. This will be the first tournament of the spring season for the Cardinals but it is not the first event they have played in since the start of the semester. The Cardinals took a training trip to Naples and closed it out with match play against Indiana on January 16 and the Cards came away with a 5-3 win.
The Cardinals lineup for the tournament will be Carmen Griffiths, Hana Ryskova, Rylee Suttor, Beatriz Barrios and Gabbi Bentancourt. Ryskova and Suttor both competed in all five tournaments during the fall season. Ryskova had the best individual finish for the Cardinals in the fall as she placed third at the Boilermaker Classic. Ryskova had a top-10 finish and two top-15 finishes during the fall season. Suttor's best finish of the fall came at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate when she finished tied for 14th overall. She also had two top-15 finishes in the fall and had six par or better rounds.
Griffiths competed in four of the five tournaments in the fall after missing the final tournament when she was competing in Abu Dhabi at the World Amateur Championships. She finished tied for 13th overall with 6-under-par through the four-round tournament. During the fall season with the Cardinals, she had three rounds in the 60's and eight par or better rounds out of her 12 total. Her best finish also came at the Mercedes-Benz when she finished tied for 10th.
In her first season with the Cardinals, Barrios also competed in four tournaments during the fall. She finished tied for 20th overall at the Mercedes-Benz with a two-over-par 215 over the three-round tournament. Bentancourt played in three tournaments in the fall and she tallied a top-15 finish in the final tournament of the fall season. She finished tied for 13th overall at The Ally with a 5-over-par 221.
Following the Collegiate Invitational, the Cardinals will return to campus before setting out for their own tournament later in February. Louisville will travel to Melbourne, Fla. for the annual Moon Golf Invitational that will be held at the Suntree Golf Club. The three-day tournament will start on Sunday, February 19 and conclude on Tuesday, February 21.
