LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville cross country teams will continue their postseason on Friday morning at the NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships.
The regional meet will be contested at Winthrop Farm in Rock Hill, S.C. with the women's 6K set to begin the morning's competition at 10:30 a.m. ET. The men's race will follow at 11:30 a.m. ET as the men move up to the 10K distance for the first time this season.
The event will serve as one of nine NCAA regional meets across the nation this weekend that will provide athletes with the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships that will take place on Nov. 23 in Madison, Wis.
The top-two scoring teams at each regional will automatically qualify for the national meet with the first four individual finishers that do not belong to an automatically-qualifying team also receiving automatic bids. Following the conclusion of all nine regional meets, the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee will select 13 at-large teams and two at-large individuals to round out the national championship field.
The Southeast Regional is made up of all Division I cross country programs from Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The field will feature four nationally-ranked women's teams and five nationally-ranked squads on the men's side, including the Wake Forest men's team that captured the ACC team title two weeks ago.
The Cardinals will be looking to improve on their showing at last season's regional meet where the women placed 9th in the team standings while the men finished 19th.
Both teams last competed on Nov. 1 at the ACC Cross Country Championships with the women finishing 10thas a unit and the men placing 15th.
