Cardinals Ready to Host PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational
January 25, 2024 | Track & Field
Louisville’s only home meet of the year holds bronze-level distinction on the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams will host their only meet of the indoor season at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Jan. 26-27 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
The two-day event stands as one of four meets staged in the United States and the only meet hosted by a university to be included on the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour, holding a bronze-level classification. The Tour, founded in 2016, was created as a series of indoor track & field meets that was designed to raise the profile of indoor track & field and allow for high-level competition outside of World Championship events.
Competition on both Friday and Saturday will begin at 10:00 a.m. with track events and field events beginning simultaneously. The meet will also feature combined events, as the women's pentathlon will be staged on Friday while the men's heptathlon will last for the full two days.
Admission to the meet will be $10, with parking provided on site for an extra $5 charge. More meet information, including a full schedule of events, can be found here.
The meet will feature over 25 schools, seven of which are members of Power Five conferences, while also providing opportunities for athletes competing in the professional ranks to compete unattached.
The Louisville men's squad comes into the meet after receiving the No. 22 ranking in the season's first installment of the USTFCCCA National Ratings Index on Monday. Along with the Cardinals, the meet will be headlined by three other ranked teams, led by Texas Tech's top-ranked men's team.
Currently, three Cardinals hold NCAA qualifying marks, each of whom are set to compete this weekend. Trey Allen leads the nation with a mark of 2.24m (7-4.25) in the men's high jump, while Jake Burkey and Jeremiah Willis both hold top-15 marks nationally in the men's long jump.
