
Cardinals Open Spring Season with Match Play Win Over Indiana

The Cardinals defeated the Hoosiers 5-3 in match play
NAPLES, Fla. — The University of Louisville women's golf team began the 2024 spring season with a win after they defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 5-3 in match play Tuesday afternoon at Shadow Wood Country Club down in Naples, Fla. The Cardinals were down in Naples for a training trip to begin the semester and closed it out with a match against the Hoosiers before coming back up to Louisville.
All eight Cardinals took the course against the Hoosiers on Tuesday afternoon for their first competition since The Ally back at the end of October. Carmen Griffiths won her match 3 & 1, Rylee Suttor won 4 & 3, Beatriz Barrios won 3 & 2, Gabbi Bentancourt won 2 & 1 and Hana Ryskova won 2 up to clinch the five points for the Cardinals. Millie Cottrell lost 1 down, Carly Haines dropped 5 & 3 and Molly Lyne fell 2 & 1 to round out the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will return to some colder weather in Louisville before heading out for their first tournament of the spring season in a few weeks. The Cardinals will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico to take part in the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club. The tournament is being hosted by Virginia and will take place at the Guadalajara Country Club. It is a two-day tournament with the first round and first nine holes of the second round to be played on Friday, Feb. 2 while the last nine holes and third round will be completed on Saturday, Feb. 3.
