Gage Guerra scored his second goal of the match in the 89th minute to secure a 2-2 draw.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Gage Guerra found the net with less than two minutes to play to help the seventh-ranked University of Louisville secure a 2-2 draw at No. 4 Syracuse on Friday night.
The Cardinals found themselves down a goal for more than 65 minutes on Friday but drew one final chance in the 89th minute. Sander Roed's in-swinging corner kick dropped to the foot of Guerra at the left post and the junior put it home to level the match with less than two minutes to play.
Louisville (4-0-1, 1-0-0 ACC) is off to its best start in program history, unbeaten through its first five matches.
Guerra continued his torrid start to the 2023 season with two more goals in the draw. The reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Week blasted home the first goal of the night just over 10 minutes into the match before finishing the brace in the closing minutes.
Guerra has now scored in four consecutive matches, including two goals in each of the last two matches. The Houston native has six tallies in the last four contests.
Syracuse (3-0-2, 0-0-1) responded quickly after the Cardinals struck first, converting a penalty kick just 74 seconds later to tie the match at one. The Orange then grabbed the lead in the 33rd minute, capitalizing off a Louisville turnover to surge in front.
Syracuse was in control for much of the first half, outshooting the Cards 12-2 through the first 45 minutes, but Louisville's adjustments in the second half provided opportunities culminating in the late equalizer.
Brandon McManus and Sander Roed each recorded assists on the night. The assist was the 15th of Roed's career, moving him into a tie for ninth all-time at Louisville.
The Cardinals return home next Friday to take on Virginia Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
