No. 5 Louisville Heads To Notre Dame

Long-time rivals square off on Wednesday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No.5-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team begins a four-match road trip this week, traveling to South Bend, Indiana, for a matchup with Notre Dame at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, then heading to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face off against NC State at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The 11-1 Cardinals began ACC play 2-0 last week, defeating Syracuse 3-0 on Friday, and following that with a four-set win against Boston College on Sunday. In Louisville's win over the Eagles, Anna DeBeer led the way with 18 kills and 10 digs, while outside hitter Charitie Luper added 15 kills, two aces, and six digs. Middle blocker Cara Cresse tallied 12 kills, two digs, and a block, and opposite hitter Aiko Jones had 10 kills, two aces, five digs, and five blocks. Setter Elle Glock recorded 41 assists, one kill, three digs, and one block, and libero Elena Scott had a season-high 23 digs, four assists, and two aces, on top of recording her 1,000th career dig.

Cresse is first in the ACC and third nationally in hitting percentage at .483 while being eighth in the conference in blocks per set at 1.08. DeBeer is third in the ACC in kills per set at 3.76 and seventh in points per set at 3.98. Glock comes in at sixth in the conference in assists per set at 9.66, and Scott slots in at fourth in digs per set at 4.60.

As a team in the ACC, the Cardinals are second in aces per set, second (and eighth nationally) in hitting percentage, fourth in kills per set, fourth in opponent hitting percentage, fourth in assists per set, and sixth in blocks per set.

To begin ACC play, they defeated Boston College in a five-set thriller on Friday and followed that with a sweep of Syracuse on Sunday. Notre Dame is led by Salima Rockwell, who is in her second season after a 10-18 campaign last year. Sydney Palazzolo leads the Irish offensively, having recorded a team-high 172 kills on the year while sitting first in the ACC in kills per set at 4.30.

NC State is 11-2 overall this season and undefeated at home as well. They are 1-1 in ACC play, sweeping Clemson on the road on Friday, but falling to No. 11 Georgia Tech in four sets on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia. Head Coach Luka Slabe is at the helm of the Wolfpack in his fourth season, coming off a 16-13 year in 2022. Outside hitter Ava Brizard leads the charge with 173 kills and 191.5 points on the season, while also being second on the team in digs with 107.
