LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Easton Johnson, the Golf Coaches Association of America Jack Nicklaus Award winner, has signed to play men's golf at the University of Louisville, head coach Ryan Blagg announced on Friday.
Â
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Johnson comes to Louisville after one season at Master's University in Santa Clarita, Calif. A rising sophomore, Johnson recently won the Jack Nicklaus Award, which is given annually to the top men's collegiate golfers from each of the five athletic governing bodies: the NAIA, NCAA Divisions 1, 2 and 3, as well as the nation's top junior college player.
Â
"Easton is a great fit for our program," head coach Ryan Blagg said. "He is coming off an incredible freshman year and we are very excited to have him join us here in Louisville."
In his lone season at Master's, Johnson won the NAIA Men's Golf Individual Championship in May and led the team to an overall runner-up finish at the national championship tournament. He shot an 8-under 280 at the Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., and eventually took home the individual title after winning a two-hole playoff. He became only the second player in school history to win a national title and the first since 2004.
Â
The top-ranked player in the NAIA Golfstat rankings, Johnson finished the 2022-23 season with an adjusted scoring average of 71.33, the best in the NAIA. The freshman also posted the lowest round ever in a GSAC Golf Championship with a first round 64 (eight under par).
