May 23, 2023 | Track & Field
Louisville will begin competition Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. ET with the men’s hammer throw.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A contingent of 21 student athletes and three relays from the University of Louisville track and field teams are set to compete in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round from May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
The Cardinals will begin competition tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. ET when Erik Fertig kicks off the week in the men's hammer throw. Tomorrow's field events will also feature Bryan Hudson in the men's shot put and Jeremiah Willis in the men's long jump, both starting at 6:00 p.m. ET, along with Ty McPhail in the men's pole vault at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Wednesday's track events will see Sterling Warner-Savage and Nolan Macklin step into the blocks for the first round of the men's 100m and then Cameron Miller doing the same at 8:45 p.m. when the first round of the men's 200m gets underway.
All four days of competition will be streamed on ESPN+ with tomorrow's coverage beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET. Live results for the meet can be found here.
The field in Jacksonville features athletes with the top-48 marks in each individual event among schools in the East Region, following injury or withdrawal, with the only exceptions being the top-24 times for relays.
The top-12 finishers in each event from both regional preliminary meets will advance to the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are slated to take place from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
Athletes with the top-24 marks nationally in the decathlon and heptathlon earned direct qualification for the national championship meet earlier this week, with Paul Kallenberg securing an automatic bid in the decathlon with his winning performance at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Currently, the Cardinals boast seven individual athletes and a relay team who hold top-12 regional marks thus far this season.
Trey Allen stands tied for the regional lead in the men's high jump, Jeremiah Willis holds the second-best long jump mark in the east, and Cameron Miller rounds out the top three in the men's 200m.
Synclair Savage holds the sixth spot in the women's long jump, while Brion Stephens in the men's high jump and the men's 4x100m relay team of Nolan Macklin, Miller, Willis, and Sterling Warner-Savage are both tied for sixth as well. Aliyah Welter is tied for the eighth-best clearance in the women's pole vault, and Soledad Jean is also tied for the tenth-highest bar in the women's high jump among regional competitors.
