The redshirt junior took eighth in the men’s shot put to advance to June’s NCAA Outdoor Championships.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bryan Hudson locked up a spot in next month's NCAA Outdoor Championships as the University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the first day of the NCAA East Region Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla. on Wednesday.
Hudson, who entered the competition seeded 33rd in the men's shot put, finished in eighth place on the strength of a lifetime-best heave of 19.04m (62-5.75) on his first attempt of the afternoon.
The mark bested the redshirt's junior's season-best in the event by over a full meter and his previous personal-best throw by just under half a meter, while also standing as the second-best launch in Louisville history, just three centimeters behind the program record of 19.07m.
The Cardinals also fared well on the track, as Cameron Miller set a new school record in the men's 200m, clocking 20.27 to take second in his heat and move on to Friday's quarterfinals.
The men's 100m saw Sterling Warner-Savage advance to Friday's quarterfinals as well, blazing to a wind-aided time of 10.12 while Nolan Macklin finished just off the qualifying time, running a wind-assisted 10.24 to cap off his stellar freshman season at the 100m distance.
The first day of the women's competition will begin tomorrow for the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. ET when Synclair Savage takes part in the women's long jump. The women's pole vault kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET and will feature four Louisville athletes in Lily Fleetwood, Natalie Lark, Carly Pujol, and Aliyah Welter.
Tomorrow's track events will begin for Louisville at 7:00 p.m. when Taylor Herbert steps into the blocks for the first round of the women's 100m, while Katie Martin will do the same at 8:20 p.m. ET for the first round of the women's 400m hurdles.
