May 12, 2023 | Track & Field
Tomorrow’s start time has been moved to noon with the running events beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
RALEIGH, N.C. – Paul Kallenberg earned the first ACC title of his career, winning the decathlon as the University of Louisville track and field teams closed out the second day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Heading into the final day of competition on Saturday, the men's team moves to seventh place with 30.5 points with the women's team currently in eighth with 20 points.
Kallenberg earned his spot atop the podium by accumulating a total of 7,742 points that stands as the second-best point total in school history, while also representing a new facility record at NC State's Paul Derr Track.
The sophomore earned personal-best marks in six of the decathlon's ten events over the course of two days, including a launch of 57.00m (187-0) in the javelin throw and a clearance of 5.10m (16-8.75) in the pole vault on Friday that place him on the Louisville top-ten list in both events.
The Cardinals also saw a pair of athletes earn second team All-ACC honors while earning the best individual finishes at the ACC Outdoor Championships in both of their careers. Bryan Hudson took fourth place in the men's shot put with a heave of 17.68m (58-0.25), while Grigoris Nikolaou leapt 15.34m (50-4) in the men's triple jump to claim fifth place.
Louisville rounded out the day in the field securing a handful of points from Jorge Contreras Nazario, who took seventh in the men's shot put with a mark of 17.20m (56-5.25), and Alba Cuns Iglesias, who bounded to a personal-best distance of 12.26m (40-2.75) to place eighth in the women's triple jump.
On the track, Sterling Warner-Savage secured a spot in tomorrow's 100m finals, blazing to a time of 10.26 that was the fourth-fastest in the preliminary round.
The Cardinals will kick off the final day of competition from Raleigh tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. ET when the women's high jump and men's discus throw get underway. Live television coverage will be provided for the duration of the day's events on ACCNX.
