Cards Ready for ACC Outdoor Championships
May 10, 2023 | Track & Field
Competition will take place from Thursday to Saturday at NC State's Paul Derr Track.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams will begin postseason competition this weekend at the ACC Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted by NC State from May 11-13 in Raleigh, N.C.
The Cards will begin the first of three days of competition on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. ET with the women's pole vault as well as the onset of the men's decathlon, while the day's track events will kick off at 6:00 p.m. ET with the preliminary round of the women's 400m hurdles.
All three days of action will be streamed on ACCNX with the broadcast running from 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, while Saturday's events will be televised from 2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. ET.
The top-three finishers in each individual event and the top relay team will earn All-ACC First Team distinction, while the athletes who finish fourth through sixth in each individual event and the second and third place relay team will be honored as Second Team All-ACC.
The Cardinals enter the postseason seeking their first ACC Championship since joining the conference in 2015, with the men's squad coming into the meet ranked second in the conference by the USTFCCCA's ACC Rating Index, while the women are ranked ninth.
Both squads are looking to improve on last season's performances at the outdoor conference championship meet in Durham, N.C. where the women took sixth and the men placed ninth, while the teams combined for four conference champions and 17 All-ACC honorees.
Five Louisville athletes currently lead the conference in their respective events, including Trey Allen, who will be looking for his third consecutive conference title in the men's high jump after winning gold at last season's outdoor championships as well as at the indoor championship meet in February.
Synclair Savage will also look to defend her outdoor title in the women's long jump, while Cameron Miller sits third nationally in the men's 200m after winning gold in the event earlier this season at the indoor conference championships.
Soledad Jean (women's high jump) and Paul Kallenberg (men's decathlon) round out the ACC-best marks thus far this season for the Cardinals, while nine other individual athletes and a trio of relays sit in the conference's top five in various events.
