Cardinals Wrap Up Indiana Invitational

Grigoris Nikolaou and Adar Sheere secured event victories to lead the way for the Cards.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Louisville track and field teams capped off the Indiana Invitational on Saturday afternoon, earning a pair of event victories and seeing 15 new personal-bests set over the course of the two-day event.
Adar Sheere led the charge on the second day, recording a season-best heave of 57.12m (187-5) to take first place in the men's discus throw while Jorge Contreras Nazario finished in fourth for his second top-five finish of the weekend with a season-best mark of his own of 51.69m (169-7).
In the women's discus throw, Maddie Horne earned a personal-best mark for the second consecutive week, taking third place in the event with a heave of 53.13m (174-3) while Katherine Coffey rounded out the top five with a throw of 49.80m (163-5).
The Cardinals also dominated the triple jump events as Grigoris Nikolaou captured his second straight victory in the men's triple jump, leaping 15.05m (49-4.5) on his third attempt. On the women's side, Rachel Darden was the runner-up in the event with a jump of 12.01m (39-5) with Alba Cuns Iglesias and Autumn Bell following in third and fourth place.
On the track, the Cardinals competed well in the preliminary rounds of both the men's and women's 100m with four athletes advancing to the event finals.
Nolan Macklin had the fastest preliminary time of 10.59 in the men's 100m, while Jaylen Cole was the fifth athlete through to the finals in 10.66. The women's 100m saw Olivia Jenkins clock 12.12 for the third-fastest preliminary time while Ruby Nwosu made her collegiate debut in the 100m with a time of 12.67.
After competing strictly in the 400m hurdles thus far this outdoor season, Jourdin Edwards made her first appearance in the women's 100m hurdles, notching the second-fastest preliminary time in the event in 14.10.
The Cardinals will conclude the regular season with their second home meet of the year next weekend when the Clark Wood Invitational takes place on Apr. 28-29 in Louisville.
