Cardinals Claim Six Victories on First Day of Clark Wood Invitational

Louisville athletes swept the top spot in the 200m, long jump, and discus throw.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Six Cardinals earned event victories as the University of Louisville track and field teams concluded the first day of competition at the Clark Wood Invitational on Friday, sweeping the gold medals in the 200m, long jump, and discus throw.
The women's 200m saw Kiyah Yeast earn the third-fastest wind-legal time in school history, clocking 23.61 to win convincingly. On the men's side, Nolan Macklin continued his impressive freshman campaign by blazing to a time of 21.06 for the win, while short-sprint specialist Sterling Warner-Savage placed third in a personal-best time of 21.44.
The two Louisville school record holders in the long jump also impressed, led by Jeremiah Willis who leapt 7.78m (25-6.25) to claim victory in the men's long jump. Synclair Savage followed with a first-place finish of her own in the women's long jump with a jump of 6.31m (20-8.5), while Ariel Lawrence recorded a season-best mark of 5.99m (19-8) to take fourth place.
Adar Sheere also earned a season-best in the men's discus throw, with his first attempt yielding a new meet record of 57.77m (189-6), while Bryan Hudson recorded a throw of 53.58m (175-9) to secure the last spot on the podium. The women's discus throw saw Katherine Coffey finish in the top spot for the first time this outdoor season, shattering her previous personal best with a mark of 52.66m (172-9) with Maddie Horne earning the bronze with a launch of 48.14m (157-11).
Coffey also earned a personal-best in the women's hammer throw on her final attempt of the competition with a heave of 57.22m (187-8) on her way to a runner-up finish. Erik Fertig also finished second in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 60.37m (198-0), while Ethan Alyea was third with a toss of 58.69m (192-6) and Harrison Pawsat placed fifth with a new personal-best of 55.16m (180-11).
The Cardinals rounded out the meet on the track with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 800m as Sadie Morris ran a season-best of 2:08.67 in the women's 800m and Ryan Farrell fought his way to a time of 1:50.75 in the men's 800m.
The field events will kick off the final day of competition at 10 a.m. ET while the track events begin at 12:10 p.m. ET. The Cardinals are also set to honor 20 seniors tomorrow with a brief ceremony at 11:45 a.m. ET prior to the onset of the track events.
