Rowing Heads to Lake Wheeler Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville rowing team is set to compete at the Lake Wheeler Invitational April 22-23 at Lake Wheeler Park in Raleigh, N.C.
Eighteen total teams will compete at Lake Wheeler, including seven ACC programs – Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina – as well as Boston University, Alabama, Central Florida, Georgetown, Kansas, Iowa, Navy, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington State and Penn. The regatta is hosted by UNC and Duke. Â

Friday's racing will feature two sessions with the first going off at 10 a.m. and second at 3 p.m. Saturday's racing will begin at 9 a.m. until approximately noon.

The Pocock Lake Wheeler Invitational Cup will be awarded to the team with the greatest number of points. The following guidelines are how teams accumulate points.

Varsity Eight boats will receive 12, 8, or 4 points for first, second and third. Second Varsity Eight will be awarded 9, 6, or 3 for first, second and third. Varsity Fours will earn 6, 4, or 2 points first, second and third. Second Varsity Fours will earn 3, 2, 1 points and Third Varsity Eight will earn 3, 2, 1 points for first, second and third.

All ACC boat racing categories (V8, 2V8, V4, 2V4, 3V8) can score points for their team. A team that enters any additional boats (ex: 3V4 in the 2V4 race) cannot score points for their team. To earn points, the boats must finish top three in their heat. Â
