Perroni and Morris Score Three Times Apiece in Loss to Top-Ranked North Carolina
March 16, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nicole Perroni and Hannah Morris scored three goals apiece as the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team fell 20-7 on Thursday to top-ranked North Carolina at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
The loss dropped the Cardinals to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Tar Heels improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in ACC.
Perroni leads the Cards this season with 22 goals on three assists, while is fourth with 12 goals.
"Today was a tough one, head coach Scott Teeter said. "Obviously, you're playing No. 1 and they came out and got an early lead on us. A positive for us is that we came back and battled back and made a game of it. They went on another run, and we didn't have an answer. They've got great players all over the field and they probably out competed us on the draw circle to get the possessions. The possessions were probably two-to-one for them on the offensive end. Our defense gets tired. When you give great players the ball all the time, they make plays."
UNC opened the scoring with three goals before Hannah Morris scored the first goal for the Cardinals at the 3:17 mark of the first quarter to trim the lead to 3-1,
After the Tar Heels opened up a 5-1 advantage in the second quarter, Perroni and Morris combined to scored three goals to trim the UNC's lead to 5-4 before the half. Perroni tallied consecutive markers, and Morris got the Cardinals within one before North Carolina would score six unanswered goals to hold an 11-5 lead with 5:35 remaining in the third quarter. The Tar Heels added five goals in the final quarter to remain undefeated.
Kokoro Nakazawa added a goal and two assists for the Cardinals.
