ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up a historic indoor season with two more athletes earning first team All-American honors on the final day of competition at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Trey Allen and Cameron Miller both finished inside the top five in their respective events, combining to score 10.5 points in the meet to place the Louisville men 22ndoverall as a team, marking the best team finish and highest point total at the indoor championships for the Louisville men's squad since tying for tenth place with 21 points in 2007.
"Our support stuff has done a terrific job this winter and that's a big reason that we were able to finish inside the top 25 this weekend," said head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm proud of the way this team has continued to grow. They continue to show up each and every day working to improve and supporting one another. We'll leave Albuquerque proud of both the individual and team accomplishments with a hunger to build into an even more successful outdoor season."
Saturday's competition began with Allen clearing a height of 2.21m (7-3) to tie for third place in the men's high jump, which stands as the best individual finish by a Cardinal on the weekend and improves upon his seventh-place finish in the event a year ago at the indoor national meet.
In the men's 200m, Miller raced to a time of 20.29 to claim fourth place after finishing sixth in yesterday's preliminary round, putting the finishing touches on an indoor season that saw him rewrite the Louisville record books in his first season with the Cardinals.
Brion Stephens rounded out the Louisville competitors, concluding his impressive freshman indoor season by achieving second team All-American status in the men's high jump with a clearance of 2.10m (6-10.75) to finish 16th in the nation.
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the outdoor season, with the squads traveling to Atlanta, Ga. for Georgia Tech's Yellow Jacket Invitational on Mar. 17-18.
