
Cards Cap Day One of Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Louisville track and field teams opened up their outdoor season with a rainy first day of competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
The Cardinals started off the day with a bang with three athletes earning top-five finishes with new personal bests in the men's hammer throw. Erik Fertig finished as the runner-up in the event with a mark of 60.36m (198-0), Ethan Alyea took third in a throw of 56.92m (186-9), and Harrison Pawsat recorded a heave of 53.84m (176-8) to place fifth.
The women's weight throw also produced a fifth-place finisher as Katherine Coffey rounded out the top five with a mark of 56.31m (184-9) that stands as a new personal best for the senior.
The Cards then dominated the men's 100m finishing with four of the top five finishers, led by an event victory from Nolan Macklin who clocked 10.51 in his outdoor debut. Isiah Pantiere was third with a time of 10.61, Jaylen Cole was fourth in 10.67, and Brenton Shippy finished in 10.75 to take fifth.
On the women's side of the 100m, Kiyah Yeast was third with a time of 11.70 to earn a new personal best in the event.
Louisville also picked up an event win in the men's 110m hurdles as Justin Lehmkuhler recorded a time of 16.11 in his first competition since the 2021 season.
The distance events saw solid performances in the 3000m steeplechase, as Madeline Castleberry earned a personal-best time of 10:55.60 to take second. On the men's side, Spenser Wolf was fourth in 9:28.10, while Forest MacKenzie took fifth with a time of 9:34.80. Ainsley Taylor recorded a time of 18:28.79 in the women's 5000m, earning fifth place.
The Cardinals continued to find success in the throws, garnering three top-five finishes in the men's shot put. Bryan Hudson was third with a heave of 16.69m (54-9.25), Jorge Contreras Nazario placed fourth with a throw of 16.38m (53-9), and Adar Sheere followed closely with a mark of 16.14m (52-11.5) to take fifth.
The long jump closed out the meet with a pair of freshmen earning second-place finishes, as Autumn Bell was the women's runner-up with a mark of 5.48m (17-11.75), while Trae Burns finished second for the men, leaping 7.07m (23-2.5). The men's event also saw Adam Axelrod take third in a jump of 7.01m (23-0), while Grigoris Nikolaou placed fifth with a mark of 6.93m (22-9).
Competition will begin tomorrow with the high jump, pole vault, triple jump, and discus throw all beginning at 12 p.m.
