Louisville will send squads to Clemson and Vanderbilt this weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams return to competition this weekend as the teams split between Clemson's Tiger Paw Invite and Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge on Feb. 10-11.
"We'll split up the squads this weekend with high-level opportunities at Clemson and Vanderbilt," said head coach Dale Cowper. "This weekend is designed to give each event group the best opportunity to chase NCAA qualifying performances before we focus upon the ACC Championships here at the Norton Sports and Learning Complex later this month."
The Cardinals will travel 25 athletes to compete in Clemson, S.C. at the Tiger Paw Invite, which has become of the premier collegiate indoor meets in the nation. Ten nationally ranked women's teams will compete, four of which are ranked in the top ten, with No. 1 Texas and No. 4 NC State leading the charge. On the men's side, nine ranked squads will be represented, led by No. 4 Texas and No. 6 Tennessee.
The Tiger Paw Invite will be available to stream on ACC Network on both Friday and Saturday. More meet information can be found here.
All six Louisville athletes who currently are in line for a berth to the national championships will compete at Clemson, with Synclair Savage (women's long jump), Aliyah Welter (women's seeded pole vault), and Sterling Warner-Savage (men's 60m) all slated to compete on the first day of action. On Saturday, Trey Allen and Brion Stephens will be featured in the men's high jump, with Cameron Miller racing in the men's 200m.
Allen, Miller, and Savage have all set new Louisville school records this season, while Warner-Savage tied his own record in the 60m dash at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
Louisville will also send 34 athletes to Nashville, Tenn. for the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University. On the men's side, eight nationally ranked teams will compete including athletes from No. 3 Texas Tech, while six ranked women's squads will also be in attendance with No. 6 Alabama coming in with the highest ranking.
The final schedule of events and more meet information can be found here.
The focus will be on the throwing squad after Bryan Hudson and Ethan Alyea had personal-best performances in the men's shot put and weight throw, respectively, at the Meyo Invitational last weekend. On the women's side, Zoe Yeast will return for her first competition since the Cardinal Classic on Jan. 13-14 to compete in the women's weight throw.
Louisville's distance group will also be well-represented in Nashville with Madeline Castleberry and Sydney Partyka leading the way for the women competing and Ryan Farrell, Ian Kibiwot, and Jason Krell highlighting the men.
