Louisville Closes Out First Day of Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville track and field team finished up the first day of action at Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge on Friday evening.
Ian Kibiwot led the way for the Cards, placing third overall in a competitive field in the men's 5000m. The sophomore's time of 13:58.68 makes him the third-fastest performer in the 5K in Louisville history. In the women's 5000m, Madeline Castleberry secured a new personal best by over 20 seconds, recording a time of 17:11.27.
Three more Louisville athletes earned third-place finishes during the day's field events, keyed by Ethan Alyea's fifth consecutive top-five finish in the men's weight throw with a heave of 19.62m (64-4.5). The men's long jump saw freshman Trae Burns jump 7.02m (23-0.5) and Jenna Hensley cleared 1.63m (5-4.25) in the women's open high jump as they both earned third-place marks as well.
The competition will start back up tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with the women's unseeded 3000m run with the day's livestream on SECN+.
