Personal Best Performances Highlight Meyo Invitational
February 04, 2023 | Track & Field
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Louisville track and field team wrapped up competition at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational Saturday afternoon. On the weekend, the Cardinals earned eight top-three finishes and set 15 new personal bests.
"Our squads did not disappoint at the Meyo Invitational," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We saw many season bests and continued progress across all event areas."
Aliyah Welter led the way, claiming victory in the women's pole vault for the third time this season, clearing a height of 4.28m (14-0.5).
A pair of near record-breaking performances highlighted the track events as Ryan Farrell came within just 0.2 seconds of the indoor school record in the men's 800m with a third-place finish in 1:49.97. The men's 4x400m relay team of Cameron Miller, Robert Joseph, Sterling Warner-Savage, and Isiah Pantiere clocked 3:10.93 for the second-fastest time in school history and a third-place finish.
The triple jump produced two solid performances as Grigoris Nikolaou earned a runner-up finish in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.92m (48-11.5) and Alba Cuns Iglesias turned in a personal-best leap of 12.79m (41-11.5) to take third in the women's triple jump.
In the women's 60m dash, Taylor Herbert tied her personal best of 7.36 to earn third place, while Nolan Macklin notched his second consecutive third-place finish in the men's 60m dash, blazing to a time of 6.73.
Ethan Alyea secured a personal-best mark in the men's weight throw of 19.88m (65-2.75) that gave him a fourth-place finish. The women's 4x400m relay team of Katie Martin, Jourdin Edwards, Taylor Herbert, and Tiriah Kelley closed out the afternoon with a fifth-place finish in 3:42.93.
"Next weekend will be a critical opportunity for our program to add some additional national qualfying performances before hosting the ACC at the Norton Sports and Learning Complex at the end of the month," added Cowper.
The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend when the team splits to either Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational or Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge on Feb. 10-11.
