Cameron Miller Wins 200m Title to Cap Off ACC Championships
February 25, 2023 | Track & Field
Cardinals break four school records as men place fourth and women place eighth
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cameron Miller took home the conference title in the men's 200m dash on Saturday afternoon to lead the University of Louisville track and field teams as they established four new school records on the third day of competition at the ACC Championships.
Miller's time of 20.27 in the 200m stands as a new personal record, school record, ACC Indoor Championships meet record, and facility record in the event as he blew away the competition and finished just one-hundredth of a second off of the ACC indoor record of 20.26 set in 2000 by Clemson's Shawn Crawford.
"First off, I'd like to thank our support staff for hosting an amazing championship week here at the Norton Sports and Learning Complex!" said head coach Dale Cowper. "I couldn't be more excited about the way these young men and women competed this weekend. I can't remember a competition with this many outstanding performances but I am most excited about the team synergy and chemistry."
The Louisville men earned their highest finish in the ACC Indoor Championships since joining the conference in the 2014-15 season, placing fourth overall with 68.5 points, while the Louisville women improved on last season's tenth-place finish, totaling 42 points to take eighth.
On the weekend, Louisville saw eight athletes earn first team All-ACC distinction, while seven athletes and two relays were recognized as second team All-ACC. The 17 total All-ACC honorees marks a program-best for the Cardinals since joining the conference. Along with the four school records, Louisville athletes earned 31 personal bests over the three-day event.
The school record fell for the second time this weekend in the women's 200m, as both Tiriah Kelley and Kiyah Yeast dipped under the previous record of 23.55 that Kelley had set in Thursday's preliminary round. Kelley recorded a new record time of 23.38 to take fourth place and cap off her freshman indoor season, while Yeast claimed sixth place in 23.47.
Both 4x400m relays secured new program records in the final two events of the competition, earning a pair of podium finishes as well. In the women's race, the foursome of Katie Martin, Taylor Herbert, Jourdin Edwards, and Kelley clocked a time of 3:37.71 to earn the bronze medal and bump the Louisville women up one spot in the team standings. The team of Noah Carmichael, Miller, Robert Joseph, and Isiah Pantiere earned a runner-up finish in 3:07.79 to move the men's squad up to fourth place to finish out the weekend.
In the 60m finals, Louisville athletes earned fourth-place finishes in both events, as Herbert ran 7.35 in the women's section and Sterling Warner-Savage powered to a time of 6.61 on the men's side.
The Cardinals also saw freshman Nolan Macklin earn All-ACC honors in the men's 200m, blazing to a sixth-place finish in a time of 21.11.
Bryan Hudson recorded a throw of 17.96m (58-11.25) to claim fifth place in the men's shot put, while Jorge Contreras Nazario followed closely behind with a heave of 17.61m (57-9.5) to take sixth place.
"This is a special group, and I'm looking forward to a great NCAA Championship trip in a couple of weeks," added Cowper.
Louisville athletes who boast top-16 marks in the nation at the conclusion of this weekend's meets will be selected to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Mar. 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M. The list of national participants will be finalized early next week.
