February 24, 2023 | Track & Field
Men remain in first; women move to fifth
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the second day of competition at the ACC Championships on Friday, led by a record-breaking performance by Paul Kallenberg in the men's heptathlon.
Heading into Saturday's finale, the men's squad remains in the lead with 35.5 points, having already eclipsed last season's point total of 35 at the same meet, and the women's team moves up to fifth place with a total of 23 points.
Kallenberg tallied a total of 5,797 points to take second place overall, breaking the previous program record of 5,730 points set by Joe Delgado in 2018. The sophomore earned personal-best marks in five of the seven events, putting him in the mix to potentially earn a berth to the NCAA Championships in two weeks.
The Cardinals also saw a pair of podium finishes on the women's side in the field events, as Synclair Savage earned silver in the women's long jump with a leap of 6.22m (20-5) and Soledad Jean took bronze in the women's high jump in a personal-best clearance of 1.80m (5-10.75).
Adam Axelrod recorded a personal best in the men's long jump, taking seventh place with a jump of 7.20m (23-7.5) to round out the Louisville scorers on day two.
In the 60m dash, Taylor Herbert advanced to tomorrow's finals in the women's section by running a lifetime best of 7.34 in the preliminaries, while Sterling Warner-Savage also advanced on the men's side in a time of 6.61.
The final day of action will kick off at 11:00 a.m. with the women's triple jump, while the men's 4x400m relay will cap off the competition at 3:50 p.m. The meet will be available to view on ACC Network Extra.
