February 22, 2023 | Track & Field
Admission is free - facility parking is $5 per car
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams will open up postseason competition this weekend when they host the ACC Indoor Championships for the first time in school history at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center on Feb. 23-25.
"I'd like to start by thanking our facilities and support staff for their significant work to stage an outstanding event at the Norton Sports and Learning Complex," said head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm looking forward to the next three days of competition! Our teams are excited and I'm sure we'll see some tremendous performances this weekend."
The first of three days of competition will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday morning with the onset of the men's heptathlon events and will conclude at 7p.m. with the men's distance medley relay. Friday's events will see the men's heptathlon resume at 11 a.m. and will conclude with the men's 800m preliminaries at 7:30 p.m. The women's triple jump will begin the final day of competition at 11 a.m. while the men's 4x400m relay will round out the event at 3:50 p.m. with an awards ceremony to follow immediately after.
Admission for spectators is free, while parking will be provided at the facility for $5 per car. Live television coverage of the meet will air on ACC Network Extra beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday and at 11 a.m. for the final two days of competition.
The top-three finishers in each individual event and the top relay team will earn All-ACC First Team distinction, while the athletes who finish fourth through sixth in each individual event and the second and third place relay team will be honored as Second Team All-ACC. Season awards within the conference will be determined by a coaches' vote following the completion of the NCAA Indoor Championships and will be announced in late March.
The Cardinals will be chasing their first ACC Indoor Championship since joining the conference in 2014, with the men ranked third and the women ranked ninth in the latest installment of the USTFCCCA's ACC Rating Index. Both squads are looking to improve upon last season's performances at the conference championship meet in Blacksburg, Va. where the men placed eighth and the women were tenth.
Louisville returns seven All-ACC honorees from a year ago, including Sterling Warner-Savage who will look to defend his conference title in the men's 60m dash. Warner-Savage is also one of six Cardinals currently qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships along with Trey Allen, Cameron Miller, Synclair Savage, Brion Stephens, and Aliyah Welter.
This season has been marked by program-best performances for the Cardinals as Allen (men's high jump), Miller (men's 200m, men's 300m), and Savage (women's long jump) have all reset the school record book this year and expect to compete for the conference crowns in their respective events.
