
Lotus’ Walk-Off Double Lifts Cardinals to 2-1 Win over Wisconsin

Graduate senior Taylor Roby’s home run in the first inning ties the school record for career homers (42)
ATLANTA – Easton Lotus' two-out double in the bottom of the seventh lifted the University of Louisville softball team to a 2-1 win over Wisconsin in the final game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Sunday at Georgia Tech's Mewborn Field. In the game, graduate senior Taylor Roby also tied the school record for career home runs (42) when her solo shot helped the Cardinals overcome a 1-0 deficit in the first inning.
With the contest tied at 1-1 in the home half of the seventh, junior Vanessa Miller delivered a leadoff single and proceeded to steal second to move into scoring position. Two outs later, Lotus stepped up to the plate and laced a double to right field to give the Cardinals the victory.
The Badgers (2-6) capitalized on three hits to jump to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Cardinals quickly responded with Roby's solo home run in the home half of the inning. With two outs, the graduate senior sent a 2-2 pitch nto the trees behind centerfield for her 42nd career home run, which ties the school's all-time record set by Courtney Moore (2004-07).
Louisville turned a pair of late-inning double plays to keep Wisconsin off of the scoreboard. In the sixth inning, Marytherese Nevin was hit by a pitch to put the lead runner on for the Badgers, but freshman catcher Sarah Gordon teamed with senior shortstop Daisy Hess to catch her stealing after freshman pitcher Alyssa Zabala struck out Rylie Crane for a double play. The Badgers got the lead runner on again in the seventh, but Lotus fielded a groundball, stepped on second base and teamed with sophomore Maddi Grant for the first two outs of the inning. Zabala delivered a strikeout to move the game to the bottom of the seventh.
Zabala (3-1) earned the complete game win, surrendering one run on five hits and striking out six. Lotus finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and freshman Sarah Gordon went 2-for-3.
Louisville (6-3) will return to action next weekend when the Cards travel to Orlando, Fla., for the UCF Knight's Classic.
