January 17, 2023 | Men's Tennis
University of Louisville head coach Rodrigo da Silva along with graduate seniors Fabien Salle and Alex Wesbrooks met with the local media to preview the upcoming 2023 spring season today at the KFC Yum! Center press room.
The Cards open the spring season on January 18 when they play host to UIC at 1 p.m. and Bellarmine at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The doubleheader kicks off a tough spring slate which features matchups with nine opponents ranked in the Interdollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason top 25, three of which are inside the top 10. The Cardinals will also face 12 NCAA tournament teams from a year ago, including national champion Virginia and runner-up Kentucky.
Louisville posted a 19-9 overall record in the 2021-22 season while finishing 9-3 in ACC play. Louisville reached its first ACC semifinal since joining the conference in 2014-2015 and made its 13th NCAA tournament appearance and first since 2017. The Cards return six letterwinners from a season ago, including Etienne Donnet who was an All-ACC first-team selection playing a majority of the season at the No. 1 spot.
Head coach Rodrigo da Silva is entering his fourth season at the helm of the University of Louisville men's tennis team. During his time at Louisville, da Silva has guided the Cardinals to 37 wins and an NCAA tournament bid as well as several top-25 team rankings. Under his tutelage, Louisville has produced two ITA Ohio Valley Region singles titlists and a doubles champion for the first time in program history.
