Nico Diaz scored his first goal of the season.
NEWTON, Mass. – The University of Louisville's men's soccer team played to its first draw of the season Friday night, tying Boston College 1-1.
Louisville (3-2-1, 0-1-1 ACC) struck first just before halftime, but Boston College evened the score midway through the second half to secure the draw.
The first half saw both teams struggling to create opportunities, but Boston College (2-2-2, 0-1-1) threatened to strike first in the 37th minute. A dangerous shot forced Bryce LeBel back into the box to kick away the goal attempt and keep the match scoreless.
The Cardinals finally broke the seal shortly after the team save, when Nico Diaz put Louisville ahead in the 43rd minute. The junior sent a volley from Damien Barker John in from the right side of the box for his first goal on the season.
Coming out of halftime, Louisville remained in front until the 64th minute when Boston College knotted the game up off.
The Cardinals threatened to break the tie with two shots on goal in the closing minutes, but could not find the back of the net.
Louisville outshot Boston College 11-8 on the night, along with a 6-3 advantage in shots on target.
The Cardinals return to the pitch for a second consecutive road match against Florida Gulf Coast. The match is slated to kickoff at 7 p.m. ET in Ft. Myers, Fla.
