ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge Matchups Set
June 28, 2022 | Softball
GREENSBORO, N.C. - A portion of the 2023 softball schedule has been set as the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge. The Cardinals will travel to Georgia Tech where they will take on Illinois and Wisconsin the weekend of February 17-19. Louisville will be making its sixth appearance in the tournament. Â
Â
The sixth annual event will take place February 16-19, 2023 and has been expanded to include games played between the two leagues in the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, in addition to other programs playing four games each at campus sites.
Â
UofL and Illinois will open play at the Georgia Tech site in a single game on Friday, Feb. 17. The tournament will continue Saturday with a game against Wisconsin followed by another meeting with the Illini. The Cards will wrap up the weekend against Wisconsin on Sunday morning.
Â
The ACC owns a 3-2 lead on the Big Ten during the first five years of the Challenge. The ACC won the Challenge in 2017, 2018 and 2020, with the Big Ten claiming the title in 2016 and 2019.
The ACC and Big Ten offices collaborate to determine the schedule each season, as the event returns for the first time since the 2020 season. In addition, the official title of the Challenge rotates each year. The 2023 event will be referred to as the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge and will continue to mirror the official title of the conferences' Challenge agreements for men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball.
Exact game dates and times, as well as television and online coverage, will be announced at a later date.
