Cardinals Set for ACC Softball Championship

CARD NOTES
• The Cards bring a 27-24 overall record into the tournament after falling at No. 20/21 Notre Dame in a three-game series to finish the season with a 10-14 mark in ACC play and earn the No. 8 seed on the conference tournament.
• Louisville is led offensively by graduate senior Carmyn Greenwood who is hitting at a .407 clip and stands first in the ACC with 70 hits. She also paces the league with 54 runs, is second with 52 RBIs – both career highs.
• Entering the week, Greenwood stands third in the NCAA in triples (7) and fifth in total bases (144). She is also ranked in the top 20 in hits, doubles, slugging percentage, runs per game and RBIs.
• Redshirt senior Taylor Roby has a career high 15 homer runs on the season, standing fourth on Louisville's single season list. She needs one more to move into a tie for second the record is 17 homers set by Courtney Moore in the 2005 season.
• Roby also extended her career home run total to 40 and stands second on UofL's all-time list, needing two more to tie the school record of 42 set by Moore (2004-07)
• Roby has also shouldered the bulk of the pitching duties and holds a 3.43 ERA with 107 strikeouts in 163.1 innings of work.
• Louisville leads the ACC and stands 18th in the nation with 24 double plays turned - one away from tying the school record set in 2019.
• The Cardinals starting lineup frequently features four freshmen.
• Louisville was picked to finish sixth in the ACC in a preseason vote by the league's head coaches.
• Carmyn Greenwood was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Softball team.

THE APRILE ERA
• Holly Aprile is in her fourth season as UofL's head coach. With the 2020 campaign suspended prior to its midway point due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Aprile has compiled a 93-86-1 record and guided the Cardinals to an NCAA regional final appearance in 2019.
• Prior to her arrival at Louisville, Aprile, after spending 10 seasons (2009-18) as Pittsburgh's head coach and five years (2004-08) as an assistant. In 2018, she earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a runner-up finish in the ACC tournament.

SYRACUSE
Series Record: Louisville leads 27-11
NOTE: The bulk of series between Louisville and Syracuse dates back to when both teams were members of the BIG EAST Conference (2006-13).
Last Meeting: April 15-17, 2022 in Louisville
The Cardinals swept the series, winning the first game 8-0 and taking the next two by scores of 4-1 and 3-2.
• The teams have meet twice in the ACC Championship with the Cards prevailing 1-0 in 2016 and 2-1 in 2018.
Scouting the Orange: Ninth-seeded Syracuse (25-20, 7-15 ACC) is coming off of a sweep of North Carolina.
• Syracuse is led at the plate by Angel Jasso, who is batting .366 and stands third in the conference with 21 stolen bases. Neli Casares-Maher carries a .343 batting average and paces the Orange with 12 home runs, 37 RBIs and 36 runs.
• Lindsey Hendrix (9-6) leads Syracuse in the circle with a 2.63 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 96.0 innings of work.Â

LAST UP
The Cardinals wrapped up the regular season at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish swept the series taking Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 5-0 and 5-1 and winning Sunday's season finale 9-1.

UP NEXT
Louisville will learn its NCAA fate on Sunday when bracket is revealed at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The Cardinals stand at No. 40 in the NCAA RPI with a strength of schedule ranked 12th in the nation.
• The Cardinals have made 14 NCAA appearances, most recently reaching the Evanston regional finals in 2019.
