OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Louisville softball team fell 6-4 to Miami (Ohio) in a midweek game Wednesday at Miami's Softball Complex.
Â
The Cardinals will return to action this weekend when they play host to Hofstra, Illinois and Western Michigan for their home-opening Cardinal Classic.
Â
Louisville (8-6) took an early lead in the second inning after freshman Ally Alexander led off the frame with a double and eventually crossed the plate on sophomore Vanessa Miller's RBI groundout.
Â
The RedHawks (4-6) capitalized on five hits, including Kate Kobayashi's three-run homer take a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
Â
Miami tacked on another run in the fourth after a solo shot by Jenna Golembiewski.
Â
The Cardinals answered with three runs in the fifth. Jenna Servi got things started with a leadoff single and two outs later, Korbe Otis brought her home with an RBI single. Taylor Roby stepped up to the plate and crushed a two-out home run over the fence in right center field. Her team-best sixth homer of the season made the score 6-4.
Â
Louisville threatened to push more runs across in the top of the seventh. Roby delivered a one-out double and Alexander earned a two-out walk to put the potential tying run on, but Miami reliever Courtney Viesrtra delivered a strikeout to end the game.
Â
Taylor Roby went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer to lead the Cardinals at the plate.
Â
NOTES:
• Taylor Roby's home run against Miami (Ohio) extended her career total to 31. She is now tied for seventh on Louisville's all-time list and needs one more to tie for sixth with Katie Keller (2011-14).
