The Cardinals Made Both Podiums and Sit in Fifth at NCAAs

Louisville set a relay record in Atlanta
ATLANTA -- The University of Louisville women made both podiums and set a school record tonight at the 2022 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.
Virginia has taken an early lead in the team standings with 74 points. Texas is second (58) followed by California (56), Stanford (54), Louisville (46), NC State (44), Alabama (38), Ohio State (38), Georgia (34), and Tennessee (34) round out the top 10.Â

The 200 medley relay team of Abby Hay (23.86), Kaylee Wheeler (25.68), Tristen Ulett (22.93) and Gabi Albiero (21.15) shaved almost two seconds off their entry time and set a school record of 1:34.62 in the first heat.  The former school record stood since 2016. In the final heat, Virginia edged out NC State to win with a time of  1:32.16.Â

The Cardinals dropped 3.38 seconds off their entry time in the 800 free relay. Arina Openysheva had a fast opening split of 1:43.59. Paige Hetrick (1:44.25), Polina Nevmovenko (1:44.97) and Tristen Ulett's anchor of 1:44.43 combined for a time of 6:57.214. The Stanford Cardinal took the top podium spot with the winning time of 6:48.30.

Louisville will compete in the 500 free, the 200 IM, the 50 free, and the 400 Medley Relay tomorrow in prelims that start at 10 a.m. ET.
