
Three Cardinals Named to Lacrosse Canada Women's World Cup Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse junior Nicole Perroni, assistant coach Kay Morissette (Class of '16) and alumna Brenna Shanahan (Class of '20) have been selected to represent Canada at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Cup in Towson, Md. from June 29 to July 9.

Perroni, Morissette and Shanahan played for Lacrosse Canada at the Fall Classic in Sparks, Md. in October under Louisville and Canada head coach Scott Teeter. Morissette recorded three ground balls, four caused turnovers and nine draw controls while Perroni notched two goals and four ground balls with Shanahan adding one ground ball across two games.

The quadrennial event is the major international championship for women's lacrosse and will feature the top female lacrosse players from a record 30 countries. The event was postponed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Canada has been the runner up in the last two World Cup finals but has never won the championship.

Perroni, a Whitby, Ontario native, played in nine games as a sophomore last season, recording nine goals, one assist, five caused turnovers, four ground balls and four draw controls. She recorded her nine goals on just 25 shots, compiling a .360 shooting percentage. In 2019, she helped lead the Canadian U19 team to a second-place finish in the U19 Women's Lacrosse World Championship.

Hailing from Bowmanville, Ontario, Morissette graduated from Louisville in 2016, playing lacrosse all four years. In her time as a Cardinal, Morissette was named First Team IWLCA All-America (2015, 2016), First Team IWLCA All-Region (2014, 2015, 2016), First Team All-ACC (2015, 2016) and Second Team IWLCA All-America (2014). Morissette is UofL's all-time leader in draw controls with 572 and ranks second in assists (51) and fourth in goals (167).

Shanahan came to Louisville via Mississauga, Ontario and graduated in 2020. Shanahan had 21 starts in 31 games across her three seasons, recording 11 goals, 29 assists and 40 points. Shanahan's eight ground balls vs. Denver Feb. 17, 2018 are tied for first all-time and her six assists vs. Vanderbilt on Feb. 25, 2020 are tied for the second-most assists in a single game in program history. She ranks fourth all-time with 0.91 assists per game and her 29 career assists are 10th in program history. In 2015, she played with the gold medal U19 team in the U19 Women's Lacrosse World Championship.

This year's World Cup will mark the third time Morissette has played in the event and the first for Shanahan and Perroni. Â
