February 05, 2022 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville track and field team closed out competition at the Meyo Invitational Saturday at Loftus Sport Center.
Isaac Kiprop and Cooper Marchal recorded a pair of sub-15 minute times to earn personal bests in the men's 5000m. Kiprop crossed the line in 14:39.43 to round out the top-10, while Marchal recorded a time of 14:53.84 in the team's only event Friday.
Ben Ewert opened the second day of competition with a 12th-place finish of 8:27.83 in the men's 3000-meter.
The Cardinals took three of the top-10 spots of the women's pole vault. Aliyah Welter recorded her best performance of the season after clearing a height of 4.23m (13-10.5) for third before barely missing an attempt at 4.33m (14-2.5) that would have stood as a new personal best. Auriane Viola recorded a mark of 4.08m (13-4.5) for fifth, while Lily Fleetwood placed 10th at 3.63m (11-10.75).
Ryan Farrell clocked in with a time of 1:52.67 in the men's 800-meter, which ranks the top-10 in the program's indoor history and only .10 seconds shy of his personal best. Ian Kibiwot concluded the final day's events with a personal-best time of 8:14.82 in the men's Ryan Shay 3000-meter.
The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Clemson, S.C. for the Tiger Paw Invite.
