Warner-Savage's School Record Leads Day One at Tiger Paw Invitational
February 11, 2022 | Track & Field
The Snellville, Ga. native established the previous program best of 6.62 seconds at the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships.
"First, I could not be where I am without praising the highest. I am blessed with an outstanding support group and coaching staff here at Louisville. It is great to be acknowledged, but I wouldn't be here without those who bring out the best in me. After being injured for eight months, it was this program's support that helped me dig deep and have faith in myself. This is the result of all that hard work."
Adar Sheere kicked off competition Friday with a first-place finish in the men's open weight throw after recording a season-best heave of 19.50m (63-11.75). On the track, Ben Ewert and Ian Kibiwot posted personal-best times in the men's mile. Kibiwot set the pace at 4:11.13 to finish fourth, while Ewert took the second heat with a time of 4:15.40 that placed 11th overall.
Louisville took three of the top-five spots in the women's pole vault. Gabriela Leon cleared 14 feet for the third straight meet, posting a height of 4.34m (14-2.75) to round out the top-three performers. Leon was followed by Aliyah Welter and Auriane Viola at 4.19m (13-9) for fourth and fifth, respectively.
"Today was a good day of consistency for the group and I think our performances Friday puts us in a really great position for ACC Championships at the end of the month," said Leon. "I am proud of this team that I get to train with every day and look forward to improving over these next two weeks in preparation for the postseason."
Zoë Yeast achieved a personal-best weight throw mark with a heave of 18.02m (59-1.5), while Brooke Weimer earned a personal-best time of 56.37 seconds in the women's 400-meter. A total of seven Cardinals established new personal-best marks Friday to set the tone for the final day of competition tomorrow.
Saturday's events open at 10:00 a.m. with the men's shot put and conclude with the men's 4x400m relay at 4:00 p.m.
