Louisville Set for NCAA Tournament

Host, and fourth-seeded Michigan will face Albany in the other first round matchup Friday. The winners will meet in the quarterfinals Sunday at 1 p.m.

NOTE CARDS
• The Cardinals bring a 12-7 record into the NCAA post season following a 1-0 loss to No. 5 Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament. Louisville finished the season with a 1-5 mark in ACC play, earning the No. 6 seed in the conference championship.
• This marks UofL's fourth straight and 11th overall NCAA tournament appearance. In 2020, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the first time in program history. In 2019, UofL reached the quarterfinals. The Cardinals return to Michigan's Ocker Field for the second straight year in NCAA postseason play. In 2021, Louisville fell 1-0 to Harvard in the first round.
• Graduate senior goalkeeper Sasha Elliott and senior defender Julie Kouijzer were named to the All-ACC first team while Aimee Plumb earned second team honors.
• The Cards are 5-6 in games against ranked opponents with wins against then-No. 4 Michigan, No. 13 Princeton, No. 11 Penn State, No. 16 Liberty and No. 24 Duke.
• The Cardinals have registered 33 goals this season with 10 different players contributing to the total. Six players have registered multiple goals.
• Aimee Plumb leads the team with 23 points, eight goals and seven assists - all career highs.
• Five of Plumb's eight goals have stood as game winners against Penn State, Penn, Fairfield and Liberty. She ranks third in the ACC in game-winning goals.
• Graduate senior Sasha Elliott (12-7) carries a 1.25 goals against average, standing fourth in the ACC and 18th in the NCAA. She also leads the ACC and stands sixth in the nation with a .795 save percentage.
• Plumb was recently named to the NFHCA Collegiate Watch List. She was also selected to the 2022 Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey team in a vote by the league's seven head coaches. The Cardinals were picked to finish fifth in the regular season.
• The Oct. 23 loss at Cornell snapped an 11 game win streak against non-conference opponents this season and the first against an unranked team.

Head Coach Justine Sowry
2021 ACC Coach of the Year Justine Sowry is in her 12th season at the helm. During her time at Louisville, she has guided the Cardinals to 164 wins, seven NCAA tournament appearances reaching the quarterfinals twice and advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history in the 2020-21 season.
• Under Sowry's tutelage, Louisville has tallied three conference titles, including back-to-back ACC regular season crowns (2020, 2021) as well as a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC Championships.

CARDS TWELFTH IN NFHCA COACHES POLL
UofL stands at No. 12 in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings released on Nov. 8 The Cards remain in the same spot for the second straight week after a 1-0 loss to No. 5 Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship.
• Prior to the Nov. 1 poll, the Cards had been ranked among the top 10 for 39 straight ranking periods spanning back to 2019 when they appeared at No. 8 on Sept. 10.
• Louisville has now spent 106 consecutive weeks in the top 20 in the nation dating back to the 2013 season.

UP LAST
The 12th-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell 1-0 to No. 5 Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship at Duke's Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
• In the game, Louisville outshot Virginia 13-4 with a 6-2 edge in shots on goal and a 5-2 advantage in corners. Jet Trimborn collected five saves and the Cavaliers added a defensive save while Sasha Elliott had one stop for the Cardinals.
• Louisville's four-game losing streak is the first since the 1999 campaign.

NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTABLES
This marks Louisville's fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance. UofL seniors Emilia Kaczmarczyk, Julie Kouijzer, Katie Schneider, Mattie Tabor and Minna Tremonti become the second four-year senior class to participate in the NCAA Tournament in each of their seasons.
• Additionally, transfers Sasha Elliott and Kelsey McCrudden will have represented two different schools in the NCAA tournament in their collegiate careers.
• Elliott a graduate transfer in her first season at Louisville played for VCU which earned the Atlantic 10 Conference automatic bid in 2020
• McCrudden, who joined the Cardinals in the 2021 season, was a freshman on Albany's team in the Great Danes' most recent NCAA appearance in 2018.
