The Cardinals will host the Tenth Annual ORCI as a highlight on this competitive schedule
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville rowing team has released its 2022-23 schedule according to head coach Derek Copeland.
The Cardinals' fall slate includes a trip to Tuscaloosa to scrimmage Alabama and other invitees as well as the Rivanna Romp.Â
"We have added a bigger full-team fall race back into our fall schedule when we go to Alabama where we will also race Clemson, Oklahoma and Miami. This will give our team a couple of different types of race experience," said Copeland.Â
The fall schedule is highlighted by the Rivanna Romp which will be hosted by Virginia and competed in Earlysville, Va. on the Rivanna Reservoir.Â
"The Rivanna Romp is always a big deal and we hope to use it to show our program growth over the past couple of years," said Copeland.Â
Â
The Cardinals' schedule features three head-to-head competitions and two training trips. The Winter training trip will take the Cards to Sarasota in early January and will help the Cardinals prepare for the head-to-head competition with Michigan March 3 in Caryville, Tenn. The Spring Training trip will be in Oak Ridge, Tennessee which will help UofL gear up for competition in the ORCI.
"The early spring scrimmages once again getting us low stakes-high reward opportunities against some of the best in the country, including Michigan and SMU," said Copeland.
Â
The Cardinals will host their tenth Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational with a challenging field of opponents. UofL will also race Indiana and Minnesota in late March at IU.
"We have also added an Indiana University race in the spring as an additional opportunity for our family and friends to see us in action," said Copeland.Â
Â
Louisville has earned a berth in the both the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota and the Lake Wheeler Invitational in Raleigh both in April.
Â
The Cardinals will go head-to-head with regional power Michigan on April 30 as a final tune-up prior to the ACC Championships May 12-13, which will be competed in Raleigh, N.C.
