October 28, 2022 | Men's Soccer
Louisville lost 3-0 at Wake Forest on Friday night.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The ninth-ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat at Wake Forest on Friday night.
Louisville closes out the regular season at 9-4-3 overall and 4-3-1 in ACC play. The Cardinals finished third in the ACC Atlantic Division and will be the No. 5 seed in next week's ACC Tournament.
UofL will open up ACC Championship play on Wednesday against 12th-seeded Virginia Tech at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Louisville and Wake Forest (13-4-0, 5-3-0) battled to a scoreless stalemate through the first 45 minutes on Friday.
Bryce LeBel got a head on the end of a corner kick in the 16th minute, but the shot was deflected away by a Wake Forest defender before it reached the net. Brandon McManus also had a dangerous headed 15 minutes later that forced a diving save to keep the Cards off the board.
Ryan Troutman was good on the opposite end, keeping the Deacons out of the scoring column in the first half. The senior keeper stood tall and kicked aside Wake's best scoring chance in the 30th minute.
After the half, Wake Forest finally cashed in a scoring chance in the 60th minute and opened up a scoring run that saw it score three times in a 20-minute span. Wake added goals in the 67th minute and again in the 79th.
Louisville finished the night with eight shots, but just two in the second half. The Cardinals did hold a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
