Cardinals Wrap Up Hokie Invitational
January 22, 2022 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Paul Kallenberg placed second in his collegiate men's heptathlon debut with a total of 5594 points as the Louisville track and field team wrapped up the Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House.
"I want to thank Coach Rasnick, our staff, and all my teammates for supporting me throughout my heptathlon debut. Their support made it possible for me to finish with 5,594 points," said Kallenberg. "The total puts me in a position to compete in nationals which even surprised me but also made me really happy because of the work this group has put in."
Kallenberg recorded a personal-best height of 4.70m (15-5) in the pole vault to highlight his performances in three events today. The freshman's mark stands as second-best performer mark and the fourth-highest point total in program history behind former first-team All-American Joe Delgado.
Luke Nichols cleared the bar at 2.09m (6-10.25) to take the men's high jump, while Jeremiah Willis finished second with a leap of 7.56m (24-9.75) in the men's long jump. Bryan Hudson and Claire Bushur established a pair of personal-bests in the shot put as Hudson posted a throw of 17.32m (56-10), while Bushur bested her previous record with a mark of 13.16m (43-2.25)
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Katie Martin, Kiyah Yeast, Je'Nyia Burton, and Taylor Boggess closed out meet with a second-place time of 3:44.85. At the top of the heat through the first three legs, anchor Boggess overtook the rest of the field in the final 100 meters to earn the program's fastest time in the month of January.
The Cardinals compete next as hosts of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.
