Fung and Donnet Lead Louisville on Opening Day of ITA/Ohio Valley Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team opened the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional Championships with a pair of singles wins from Etienne Donnet and Matthew Fung on Thursday at the University of Tennessee. The tournament will continue on Friday.
Donnet, a junior transfer from Oklahoma State earned the No. 9 seed in his bracket and opened the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Indiana's Nishanth Basavareddy in the first round. He will move on to face East Tennessee State's Juan Sebastian Zabala on Friday at 12 p.m.
Fung, a junior from Miami, bested the No. 5 seed David Stevenson, rallying from a 6-3 first set loss to take the next two sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Fung will advance to the round of 64 and take on Middle Tennessee State's John Chin on Friday at 9 a.m.
In other singles action, senior David Mizrahi lost a tight three-set match to Vanderbilt's Maxwell Freeman 6-7(3), 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore Kyle Tang fell 6-3, 6-2 to Kentucky's Francois Musitelli.
In doubles, the duo of Alex Wesbrooks and Matthew Fung received a first-round bye and will face Memphis' Jeremy Taylor and Pau Fanlo on Friday at 3 p.m.
Mizrahi and Tang fell 8-5 to IUPUI's Alex Jochim and Emil Jankowski.
