Cards Set for ITA/Ohio Valley Regionals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team will continue fall action this weekend when the Cardinals travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships which will be held Sept. 23-27 at the University of Tennessee's Goodfriend Tennis Complex.
Etienne Donnet, Matthew Fung, David Mizrahi, Kyle Tang and Alex Wesbrooks will represent the Cardinals this weekend to earn a spot in the ITA National Fall Championships. The regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the fall season-ending tournament which will take place Nov. 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California.
The tournament will start Friday morning when Matthew Fung takes on David Stevenson (Memphis) at 9:00 a.m. followed by David Mizrahi's 10 a.m. match against Maxwell Freeman (Vanderbilt). Etienne Donnet will face Nishanth Basavareddy (Indiana) 11:00 a.m. and Kyle Tang will wrap up Friday's singles action at 12:30 p.m. against Francois Musitelli (Kentucky).
The Cardinals will open doubles play with a pair of matches at 3 p.m. The tandem of Fung and Wesbrooks will take on Tennessee Tech's Andre Rodeia and Mika Berghaus while Tang and Mizrahi face IUPUI's Alex Jochim and Emil Jankoski.
The Cardinals are coming of an impressive opening weekend with a 9-3 performance in singles and a 4-2 showing in doubles at Middle Tennessee's Coach Dale Short Shootout. Senior Alex Wesbrooks and junior Matthew Fung each registered perfect 3-0 records in singles and went 2-1 as a doubles team. Senior David Mizrahi and sophomore Kyle Tang also posted a 2-1 record in doubles.
This will mark junior Etienne Donnet's debut as a Cardinal after transferring from Oklahoma State.
Following this weekend, the Cardinals will travel to East Lansing, Michigan for Michigan State's Drobac/Beeman Invite Oct. 1-3.
