Â
Albiero's senior season was one for the record books. He became just the third Cardinal on the men's team to ever win an NCAA Championship title after earning gold in the 200 butterfly. His time of 1:38.64 lowered his own program UofL record and remains the fifth-fastest performance in all-time history. Albiero also finished second in the 100 butterfly (44.32) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (44.86) at the NCAA Championships. His time of 44.32 in the 100 butterfly broke his own UofL record and tied the ACC mark, all while moving up to the No. 6 time in U.S. history. Albiero was also part of four Cardinal relays at NCAAs, including splitting 20.07 on the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay that clinched UofL's first-ever NCAA relay title. He led-off the eighth-place 800 freestyle relay in 1:32.31, split 44.09 on the butterfly leg of the fourth-place 400 medley relay, and earned bronze in the 400 freestyle relay with a 42.09 split. Albiero played a crucial role in helping Louisville earn their first-ever ACC title in program history. At the ACC Championships, he won his fourth-straight 200 butterfly title (1:39.08) and collected silver in the 100 butterfly (44.67) and 100 backstroke (44.85). He split 44.81 on the butterfly leg of the gold-medal 400 medley relay, split 19.06 on the winning 200 freestyle relay, split 41.71 on the runner-up 400 freestyle relay, and led-off the third-place 800 freestyle relay in 1:32.31. Albiero won all six events he raced during the abbreviated dual meet season, and he was named ACC Swimmer of the Week on January 12, January 26, and February 2 following all meets he competed in. For his efforts in the classroom, Albiero was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth-consecutive season and was once again named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Following his record-breaking season, Albiero was also awarded ACC Swimmer of the Year.
