Cardinals Compete at Michigan in Final Regular Season Regatta
May 02, 2021 | Rowing
Louisville raced against No. 5 Michigan and RV Iowa in Ann Arbor.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. --Â The University of Louisville rowing team had their final tuneup for the upcoming ACC Championship when they raced Michigan and Iowa today in Ann Arbor.
Â
Crosswinds played havoc with the schedule, but all races were completed with the Cards sending four total boats to the regatta.
"It has taken a while to develop, but we are finally seeing some speed come out of the eights. The V4 has been in the mix all year and was able to overtake Iowa after two losses to them a couple of weeks back. The whole team has been adapting and responding all season and the last two weeks were no different." said Copeland. "The 2V8+ and the 2V4+ have been working on merging new lineups with limited practices together. This will continue to generate speed in the practice leading up to the ACC Championship. The V8+ made a couple of big steps the last couple weeks and were able to see some of those results today. Iowas dealt us a couple of big blows two weeks ago and we really wanted to make up some ground on them this week. It looked like it was going well for us as were were nearing the halfway point before Iowa had some breakage in the boat and could not finish the race at full strength."Â
Â
UofL's V8+ finished second to No. 5-ranked Michigan, ahead of RV-Iowa with a time of 6:53.07. The Cardinals' V4+ boat powered to a second-place finish, behind Michigan with a time of 7:47.59.
The 2V4+ boat was edged by just over three seconds by Iowa in a dramatic fight for second place. The 2V8 boat finished third with a time of 7:13.78.
Â
The Cardinals are idle until the ACC Championships to be held May 14-15 at Lake Hartwell, S.C. near the campus of Clemson.
