Sanga Wins 10,000m at Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville's Purity Sanga won the 10,000m while Dorcas Wasike finished second and Ivine Chemutai placed third to lead the Cardinals on day one of the Tennessee Relays Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn.
"I was very impressed with our women's 10k group tonight," said UofL Dale Cowper. "They did a nice job of working together and splitting the race up together for the first 5000 meters coming through around 17:25. Purity was able to close the second half of the race in 16:40 for the individual win and a strong NCAA Prelim qualifying performance."
In the final event of the day, the Cardinals swept the top three spots of the 10,000m run, placing four in top five. Sanga led the field with a personal best time of 35:05.91. Dorcas Wasike finished second at 35:38.62. Ivine Chemutai clocked in at 35:48.66 for a third place showing. Bailey Beery's time of 3624.40 was good for fifth place.
Also for the women, senior Halee Hudson finished tenth in the hammer throw with heave of 54.46m (178-08).
On the men's side, Justin Lehmkuhler stands in 13th place through five events in decathlon. The event will continue Friday at 11 a.m.
Freshman Erik Fertig's hammer throw of 53.95m (177.00) was good for twelfth place.
On the women's side, senior Halee Hudson finished tenth in the hammer throw with heave of 54.46m (178-08).
