Cardinals Finish Ninth at the ACC Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 27 University of Louisville men's golf team finished ninth in stroke play at the 2021 ACC Championships at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course in Milton, Ga. After Saturdays' round was washed out due to rain, play resumed Sunday morning. The Cardinals shot 13-over 293 during the third round for a 54-hole total of 25-over 865.
The top four teams advanced to the match play portion of the event. North Carolina finished first in stroke play at 814 followed by Clemson (829), NC State (831) and Florida State (845).
Senior Matthias Schmid was Louisville's top finisher after shooting a 1-over-par 211. He shot even par 70 on Sunday to place in a tie for 15th overall. The native of Germany fired a 69-72-70=211 for his fifth top-20 finish of the spring.
Trevor Johnson tied for 37th after shooting an 8-over-par 218. The senior shot 74-71-73=218, while Devin Morley tied for 43rd after carding an 11-over-par75-70=76=221. Jiri Zuska and John Murphy both tied for 47th after finishing with a 12-over-par 222.
Louisville entered the event as the number-seven seed in the tournament. A total of 10 of the 12 teams in the field were ranked in the top 40 of this week's Golfstat poll.
The Cardinals will now await an invitation to a NCAA Regional championship site slated for May 17-19. The field for this year's tournament will be announced by the NCAA on May 5.
