Cards Set Meet, Facility Records on Final Day of Clark Wood Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Emma Bryant and Albert Kosgei won the 3000m steeplechase, setting meet and facility records respectively, and Adar Sheere took first place in the discus throw to lead the University of Louisville track and field teams on the final day of the Clark Wood Invitational Saturday.
"I was excited to see the energy, enthusiasm, and effort today on what was likely the toughest weather conditions we have had for senior day," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "This year's graduating class will be missed in the years to come. I'm grateful for having the opportunity to serve as their head coach and truly look forward to watching the remarkable things they will do in the future."
With rain falling throughout the day, the Cardinals recognized the senior class of 2021: Sharnae Alston, Bailey Beery, Victoria Farley, Makenli Forrest, Gianna Gaul, Alexis Gibbons, Rashida Harris, Halee Hudson, Ashley Lawhorn, Gabriela Leon, Gabby Pinnow, Brooke Raglin, Renate van Tonder, Dorcas Wasike for the women. On the men's side: Christian Buckley, Ben Ewert, Albert Kosgei, Cade Richeson, Sean Roth and Cameron Stephens were recognized.
Kosgei achieved a facility record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:49.47, surpassing the previous mark of 9:24.69. Ryan Johnston (9:47) and Jason Kress (9:59) placed 10th and 12th respectively.
Sheere led the way as the Cardinals placed first and second in the discus throw. The sophomore registered a throw of 52.68m (172-10) and freshman Bryan Hudson followed with a mark of 50.33m (165-01). Redshirt freshman Jorge Contreras rounded out the top five with a mark of 49.05m (160-11).
In the triple jump, Cayden Spencer-Thompson, notched a fourth place finish with a leap of 14.25m (46-09.00) while Jeremiah Willis placed eighth at 12.89m (42-03.50).
For the women, Bryant established a personal best and a meet record with a time of 10.40.72 to lead the field of nine. It marked her first win in the event and surpassed her previous mark of 11:08.69.
Gianna Gaul led a trio of Cardinals with a seventh-place mark of 47.05m (154-04). Madelyn Horne (45.40m/154-04) and Katherine Coffey (44-07/144-07) finished 10th and 13th respectively.
Competing in her first outdoor triple jump, Morgan Bentley finished third with a leap of 11.76m (38-07.00). Briana Washington's jump of 11.20m (36-09.00) was good for sixth place.
Brooke Weimer paced Louisville in the 400m dash with an 11-place time of 58:20.
The Cardinals will conclude the regular season next week at the Tennessee Challenge on May 1.
