
Cardinals Close Regular Season at Tennessee Challenge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Shadrack Kipkosgei and Ian Kibiwot placed first and second in the men's 3000m and the University of Louisville men's track team posted eight top-three finished while the women tallied 10 top-three finishes to wrap up the regular season at the Tennessee Challenge on Saturday.
"We were able to see some positive things this weekend from many of our underclassmen," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm looking forward to seeing this group continue recovering from the need of the year's academic stress and fine tune our rhythm heading into the ACC Championships in two weeks."
The Cardinals will return to action May 13-15 when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Meet Highlights
• For the men, eight Cardinals achieved personal bests on day. In the 3000m, Kipkosgei clocked in with a career-best time of 8:14.03 to earn his second win of the season in the event and Ian Kibiwot finished second, clocking in at 8:15.80.
• In the high jump, the Cards took two of the top three spots as Trey Allen placed second with a mark of 2.14m (7-00.25). Luke Nichols finished third at 2.05m (6-08.75).
• Louisville also turned in a pair of personal-best times in the 1500m when Albert Kosgei finished third with a time of 3:50.98 and Cameron Stephens ran 4:01.08 to place 10th.
• Isaac Kiprop continued the personal best performances with a time of 9:38.90 to finish runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase.
• Adar Sheere posted runner-up showing in the discus throw with a mark of 55.22m (181-02). Bryan Hudson placed fifth with a mark of 52.60m (172-07).
• UofL placed two in the top four in the shot put as Hudson's personal-best mark of 17.53m (57-06.25) was good for third and Christian Buckley's throw of 17.39m (57-00.75) finished fourth.
• On the women's side, Louisville notched two of the top three spots in the 1500m with Purity Sanga clocking in at 4:29.80 for second place and Emma Bryant finishing third at 4:32.73.
• In the 3000m, Bailey Beery ran a time of 9:57.11 to place second and Ivine Chemutai was second at 10:01.69.
• Louisville notched two of the top four spots in the long jump with Renate Van Tonder taking second with a leap of 6.21m (20-04.50) and Alexis Gibbons finishing fourth with a mark of 6.02m (19-09.00).
• Brooke Raglin's time of 11.69 was good for third place in the 100m.
• In the discus throw, Katherine Coffey's personal-best mark of 48.84m (160-03) was good for a third place showing.
• Ailyah Welter and Auriane Viola tied for third in the pole vault, each clearing 4.12m (13-06.25).
• Morgan Bentley's leap of 12.31m (40-04.75) earned a third place finish in the triple jump.
