Cards Tied for Eighth after Two Rounds of the ACC Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seniors Matthias Schmid and John Murphy shot a 1-over-par 141 as the University of Louisville men's golf team is tied for eighth place after two rounds of the ACC Championships, held at the Capital City Club - Crabapple Golf Course in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday.
The Cardinals are tied with Virginia at 12-over-par, sitting 15 shots back from advancing to Sunday's match play round. The top four teams will move on to Sunday's round.
UofL shot an opening-round score of 10-over-par (290), but came back with a 2-over-par 282 during second-round action. North Carolina leads the field at 21-under-par, while NC State is in second at 12-under-par. Clemson is third at 9-under-par and Florida State stands fourth at 3-under-par.
Schmid, who enters the final round in a tie for 23rd, carded an opening round 69 to finish in a tie for ninth after round one. The fourth-year player notched three birdies over his first six holes to shoot 1-under for the first nine holes. He recorded a second-round score of 72 during the afternoon session to slip out of the top 10.
Murphy shot a first-round score of 72, but came back with a second round of 69. He recorded four birdies over his first round to also end the day in a tie for 23rd place.
Trevor Johnson and Devin Morley are tied for 40th after shooting a 5-over-par 145 over the two rounds of action. Johnson opened with a 74 and came back with a 1-over-par 71 in the afternoon, while Morley opened with a 75, but responded with an even-par 70. Jiri Zuska rounded out the top five by ending the day in a tie for 50th with an 8-over-par 148.
The Cardinals will begin third-round action on Saturday morning.
