Sheere Wins Discus Throw on Day One of Louisville Track and Field Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams are off to a strong start at the Louisville Track Invitational. The opening day featured a win by Adar Sheere in the discus throw as well as four top-three finishes and eight personal best performances on Friday at Cardinal Park.

"The hammer and discus got the weekend off to a solid start with personal bests from Erik Fertig, Ethan Alyea, Bryan Hudson, Maddie Horne, and Gianna Gaul," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "We have some alignment issues to get straightened out in each event, but the group is making good progress in the ring. I'm excited to see things progress as the spring continues."

The Cardinals placed four among the top five of the men's discus throw with sophomore Adar Sheere winning the event after a throw of 56.92m (186-09). Competing in his first event as a Cardinal, freshman Bryan Hudson finished second with a mark of 53.08m (174-02). Freshman Ethan Alyea rounded out the top three with a personal-best heave of 53-06m (174-01). Jorge Contreras' throw of 49.84m (163-06) was good for fifth place. Aaron Johnson finished seventh with a mark of 39.43m (129-04).

In his collegiate debut, freshman Erik Fertig finished fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.96 (182-09). Ethan Alyea placed seventh with a throw of 48.96 (160-07).

On the women's side, senior Gianna Gaul turned in a personal-best throw of 50.10m (164-04) to finish third in the discus throw. Freshman Madelyn Horne placed sixth with her career-best throw of 47-89 (157-01). Sophomore Katherine Coffey's mark of 44.27m (145-03) was seventh in the final standings.

Senior Halee Hudson led a trio of Cardinals in the hammer throw, finishing fifth with a mark of 53.4m (175-4). Freshman Hannah Judge (46.07m/151-01) and Coffey (43.30m/142-00) finished ninth and eleventh respectively.

The meet will conclude on Saturday with field events starting at 12 p.m.
