
Viola, Welter Finish Second and Third in Pole Vault as Cards Wrap Up Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Auriane Viola and Aliyah Welter placed second and third respectively in the pole vault to lead the University of Louisville on the final day of Florida's Tom Jones Memorial Invitational Saturday afternoon.
"We were blessed with a great day of weather today following a challenging day on Friday," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "Learning to compete through the elements is part of our sport and Friday gave us that opportunity. We look forward to getting back on campus and hosting one of the premier meets in the Midwest next weekend with the annual Clark Wood Open.
For the women, Viola established a personal-best vault of 4.15m (13-7.25) to take second while Aliyah Welter cleared 4.0-5m (13-3.5) to finish third in the field of 17.
Makenli Forrest led a trio of Cardinals in the hammer throw, placing fourth with a mark of 62.83 (206-1). Katherine Coffey (52.88m/173-6) and Tiana Bazie (49.60m/162-9) recorded personal-bests while finishing 11th and 14th respectively.
Rashida Harris finished sixth in the shot put with a season-best mark of 15.98m (52-5.25).
On the men's side, Sterling Warner-Savage competed in the 100m and finished seventh in the field of 24 with a time of 10.34.
The 4X400 relay team of Tkai Wade, Sterling Warner-Savage, Kameron Jones and Jeremiah Willis placed seventh with a mark of 40.93
In the hammer throw Erik Fertig turned in a personal-best mark of 56-67m (185-11) to finish 10th.
The Cardinals will return to action next week when they host the Clark Wood Invitational April 23-24 at Cardinal Park.
