Cards Complete Day One of Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Adar Sheere earned a third place finish in the discus throw, Trey Allen finished third in the high jump while Raeli Howerton placed fourth in the javelin throw to lead the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams on the opening day of the Tom Jones Memorial Friday at Florida's Percy Beard Track.
Sheere, a sophomore from Givatayin, Israel, placed third in the men's discus throw with a mark of 55.84m (183-2). Redshirt freshman Jorge Contreras (Caguas, Puerto Rico) registered a personal-best throw of 50-75m (166-6) to place nine in the event.
Allen, a redshirt freshman from Birmingham, Ala., posted a third-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 2.11m (6.11). Freshman Jonah Hyde cleared 2.01m (6-7) to place seventh.
Graduate student Sean Roth's vault of 4.75m (15-7) placed seventh in the pole vault.
On the women's side, Liberty Mo., native, freshman Raeli Howerton's javelin throw of 35.76m (117-4) was good for a fourth place showing.
Louisville native, redshirt senior Alexis Gibbons' leap of 6.15m placed her seventh in the field of 29 while redshirt senior Renate van Tonder's mark of 5.88m (19-2.75) was 11th.
In the 1500m, redshirt sophomore Emma Bryant (Dayton, Ohio) clocked a personal-best time of 4:24.94 for an eleventh-place finish.
The Tom Jones Memorial will conclude on Saturday with the women's hammer throw starting at 10 a.m.
